Basic Skills Required by Security Guards

 

1. Active Listening

  • Giving full attention to what other people are saying.
  • Taking the time to understand the points being made.
  • Asking appropriate questions.
  • Not interrupting at inappropriate times.

2. Reading/Writing/Speaking

  • Understanding written material in work related documents.
  • Communicating with others to convey information effectively.

 

3. Critical Thinking

  • Sound reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative approaches to situations.

 

4. Time Management

  • Managing one’s own time and the time of others.

 

5. Coordination

  • Adjusting ones actions and responses in relation to other individuals actions.

 

6. Judgment and Decision Making

  • Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions, and choosing the most appropriate choice.
