Basic Skills Required by Security Guards
1. Active Listening
- Giving full attention to what other people are saying.
- Taking the time to understand the points being made.
- Asking appropriate questions.
- Not interrupting at inappropriate times.
2. Reading/Writing/Speaking
- Understanding written material in work related documents.
- Communicating with others to convey information effectively.
3. Critical Thinking
- Sound reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative approaches to situations.
4. Time Management
- Managing one’s own time and the time of others.
5. Coordination
- Adjusting ones actions and responses in relation to other individuals actions.
6. Judgment and Decision Making
- Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions, and choosing the most appropriate choice.
