Radio Communication:
When communicating via radio, it is important to:
- Observe all the general rules of communication
- Use the proper form of operation as directed by the client
- Learn the CODE language used on site
As a security guard, you must learn and understand the basic “codes” or “radio codes. These vary widely between RCMP, Municipal Police, OPP and other security services. They also vary widely from one part of Canada to another, however, the lower number codes tend to be similar in most places. Here is a list of generally universal codes:
- 10-0: Radio Check
- 10-1: Receiving poorly
- 10-2: Receiving clearly
- 10-3: Stop radio communication (silence)
- 10-4: ‘OK’ or ‘understood’
- 10-6: Busy, please stand by
- 10-7: Out of Service
- 10-9: Repeat Transmission
- 10-10: Request to change channel
- 10-19: Return to station
- 10-20: What is your location?
- 10-21: Call by phone
- 10-35: Major crime alert
- 10-100: Bomb threat
